Building Man

BUILDING MAN is an open building coop developed to create and share tools for self-organisation.

Based in the South West, our mission is to promote sustainable and affordable self-builds and community developments which empower local people and promote cooperative access to land and resources.

Building Man Festival is our co-creative Source, a 100% participatory and open experiment in collaborative design and building. Inspired by Burning Man, this non-profit model is being developed as a capacity-building network of self-organising builders and growers, architects and engineers.

In 2014 Building Man will co-ordinate 100 volunteers in the design and build of Off Grid’s core infrastructure, as well as engaging with site art and event production.

Our TIN VILLAGE represents a sustainable model for temporary events while demonstrating a core design also applicable to permanent smallholdings or emergency disaster management camps; an integrated low impact model village, capable of hosting Off Grid’s core event programming in 2014.

This multi-venue mix of temporary and semi-permanent infrastructures will demonstrate a diversity of eco build designs and appropriate technology installations.

In addition, Building Man will also develop a comprehensive design proposal for a similar multi-purpose infrastructure to be constructed on a permanent basis. Co-ordinated by the architects and engineers of TANGENTFIELD, a successful design would be scheduled for delivery in late 2014 or early 2015.

This ten day eco build and permaculture design short course will require pre-event registration with only a limited number of spaces available, so book early!
