Medicinal Herb Walk

NOTE: This is last years line up and no longer current!

with Helen Kearney , Clare Shippey

Time: Sun 12th, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
Labels: Workshops and Activities
Location: Activities on the Move – Meet Up at Permaculture Hub

We will lead a herb walk exploring the plant life growing on site. On the walk we’ll be talking about safe identification and respectful harvesting as well as discussing the medicinal uses of the plants we come across. We’ll also look at some of the different ways in which herbs can be made into medicine.

Our mission is to encourage people to recognise and use commonly found plants, to rediscover our forgotten herbal heritage

Helen Kearney

Helen Kearney is a medical herbalist. She lives at Elder Farm, a five and a half acre organic herb farm in Devon which is part of the Ecological Land Co-operative’s first site in the UK. She has a herbal medicine practice as well as running regular workshops both at Elder Farm and at festivals. Much of the land at Elder Farm is used to grow herbs to make into medicines, soap and other herbal products, as well as edible and cut flowers. Helen has a background in permaculture, cooperatives, organic growing and outdoor education. She is a tutor and clinic supervisor for Betonica, a four year herbal medicine training programme.
Helen and Clare are also teaching the Betonica Home Herbalist course starting in September.

Clare Shippey

I studied herbal medicine at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine in Glasgow qualifying in 2010. Now living and working in South Devon I have a practice in Totnes. I love many aspects of herbal medicine and run regular workshops and herb walks throughout the year. I particularly enjoy introducing people to the often overlooked plants that are growing on their doorsteps and up through the cracks. I am tutor for Betonica, a four year herbal medicine training programme.
