In my talk I explain my route into these communities and comment on why people are reaching out to communities from the stresses of the present world. Highlighting some pros and cons of communal living and then looking at other alternatives and ways of bringing a community feel back to communities.
Larry Leventhal Tinker’s Bubble Community
I have been on a 6 year journey from being a pub General Manager in London to living within an intentional community in the countryside. I am now a member of Tinkers Bubble, but for 15 months I was the volunteer co-ordinator at Monkton Wyld Court, and I have seen how many people are looking for an alternative lifestyle. Many people seem to be trying to ‘escape the rat race’ but joining a community is a delicate process – like joining any dysfunctional family…. There are many alternatives to joining an intentional community and, having met many different travelers, WWOOFers and community members, I have thought of the pros and cons of community life, the motivations for people to join one and the other options which may be more suitable and beneficial to the wider society.
