Location: Village Green
Shelley Beech will start with a small talk on creating art in nature and the benefits of both art and nature as a form of therapy. There will be a small demonstration of nature weaving using fallen (or coppiced) wood and then weaving using natural and scrap materials to make a wall hanging (tree hanging?) which is a good practice run for making larger screens and rugs and will look awesome in your home or garden!
Shelley Griffiths
Land artist Shelley Beech spent many years painting commercially under the name Laurie Maitland and achieved international success but these days she’s more likely to be found hanging china in trees and creating art installations in situ on her land in mid Devon.
New projects will include creating living willow sculptures and mixing planting with art so that nature continues to alter installations so that both artist and nature become co-creators. Even decay can be beautiful!
Shelley and her husband Paul (co creator of all art by Shelby) will be demonstrating nature art weaving with a small wall hanging (or tree hanging!) that everyone can have a go at making. There’ll be a large community screen framed and ready for people to weave – add their strands into something that becomes a community art piece.
