Kate MacDonald
Kate founded TimeBank Hull and East Riding in 2011 as a response to the impact of austerity in Hull. Since then more than 700 individuals and organisations have signed up with members representing a cross section of the community. Learning from the first years of timebanking led to linking up with international partners and becoming a pilot site for the Mutual Aid Network which recognises the value of timebanking within a broader context of sharing, mutual credit and common funds or savings pools which enable communities to invest in each other. She is on the International Board of HUMAN’s (Humans United in Mutual Aid Networks) www.mutualaidnetworks.org. The Hull and East Riding Mutual Aid Network is now weaving a web of connection between communities and organisations including a local project funded through . Mapping assets, facilitating strengths based collaboration and catalyzing joint action. Previously Kate worked in mental health service design and strategic management (particularly early intervention in psychosis services); research and social enterprise. She ran a creative agency for six years and has worked in consultancy roles for Northern Centre for Mental Health, National Institute of Mental Health, Care Services Improvement Partnership (North West and North East), National Mental Health Development Unit and the Department of Health Right Care Programme. She is a long standing member of IRIS the national organisation which promotes best practice in early psychosis. Kate is passionate about co-creating an economy which works for the 100% and exploring alternative economic models to facilitate this. #shiftthepower. Kate is also a Kundalini Yoga Teacher and uses the teachings as her own medicine and to co-create space for others to connect.
